I cannot tell you how many times I get asked this question; "What juicer do you use and which one would you recommend?" I think it’s only fair for this topic to be my first blog post because it’s the most popular question asked. I am aware of how massive the juicing industry is and with that, it carries a wide range of juicers. I mean what better way to get more fruits and vegetables in your life. We have Huron, Kuvings, single gears, twin gears, masticating, centrifugal, hydraulics… you name it it’s out there. I will say it again, I don’t have a favourite juicer, I love them all for different reasons and benefits. I am here to only discuss the juicers that I personally own and have used so the list is simplified. They are discussed in order of purchase:
BREVILLE 5 SPEED JUICER
The Breville 5 Speed juicer was the first centrifugal juicer I ever used and owned. After spending about 7 months doing research on juicing and its benefits, this became the first juicer that came to mind. What I liked most about this juicer was how user-friendly it was and easy to assemble.
HOW IT WORKS
Also known as high speed or what I like to call “fast juicers”, they usually spin at approximately 1650 to 16,000 RPM and uses a blade to chop the produce, processing it through the mesh basket (kind of like a strainer) separating the pulp from the juice. The pulp goes into the waste basket and the juices eject into the juice jug.
- This centrifugal juicer is great for beginners or anyone who has never juiced before; it’s easy to assemble and easy to use.
- It has a large feeding tube which requires less preparation time.
- It is inexpensive compared to masticating or hydraulic juicers.
- It is fast and efficient if you are looking to consume juices right away.
- It has an adjustable dial for different density of fruits and vegetables.
- It is great for hard vegetables for example: Beets, Carrots, Sweet Potatoes, and Squash, etc.
- When compared to cold-pressed juicers, the juices produced has 50% less cancer fighting abilities
- It provides low quality juices because of its fast spinning (aerating) function; it causes oxidation by removing most of the minerals, vitamins, phyto-chemicals in juices
- It is very loud
- Frothy and yields less juice
- It is not great for soft fruits or leaf greens
- It has a storing period of up to 48 hours
- Can destroy enzymes due to very high heat
- It comes with a short warranty approximately 2 years
Based on the research compiled, the decision is in your hands. I know there are more disadvantages than there are advantages, but remember that any raw fruit and vegetable processed through a juicer of any kind is still far better than a big mac, fries, cookies, ice cream, soft drinks etc.
OMEGA VRT 350 JUICER
This Omega Vrt350 masticating slow or silent juicer was the second juicer purchased. About 3-4 years ago it was gifted to me by my husband after he noticed how invested I was when it came to juicing. You see juicing did not end after my initial juice fast, it continued to be a huge part of my life until today. I was really impressed by this machine - I have never seen anything like it. I have always wanted a masticating juicer, but most of the ones on the market were horizontal which seemed very complexed to me. The first thing I noticed was how quiet and slow it was compared to the Breville I previously was using.
HOW IT WORKS
This type of juicer is a vertical style one step juicer and its main function is slowly chewing produce using a single auger instead of a blade. The fruits and vegetables are then grinded into a mush or a pulp. Unlike the Breville which uses a blade at a high RPM, the Omega Vrt350 on the other hand uses only 80 to 120 RPM producing richer quality juices with more phytochemicals, vitamins and enzymes than the Breville. The Omega Vrt350 uses a stainless steel juicing screen along the with the auger which has holes at the bottom where the pulp and juices get expelled into separate containers.

- It has the option to reverse
- Auto feeding small pieces at a time
- It requires more preparation time because the feeding tube is very small
- Can be messier and harder to clean
- Yields lots of pulp in your juice (usually has to be strained out)
- They are usually more expensive than centrifugal juicer
- Can stop several times in the juicing process when it comes to hard vegetables
- Because most parts are plastic, it can break if you are not too careful
- Approximately $350 so can be expensive for first time juicers
In the end it all depends on your budget, using this machine is very pleasing for me overall. I love that it is a one-step juicer that yields high quality juices in just one step.

This machine was my ultimate juicer. Most women collect handbags and shoes, but I love my juicer collection. I get more satisfaction and pleasure from them than a lot of other things in life…it brings me great joy and life-long benefits.
The Norwalk Juicer was developed based on Dr. Norman Wardhaugh Walker designs making sure all nutrients are retained in the juice making process. Dr. Norman W. Walker was a British business man and also the pioneer in the vegetable juicing and nutritional health industry. He often viewed cooked foods as unhealthy believing that enzymes were being killed which is why he was a huge advocate for a diet filled with raw vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds for ultimate life-long vitality. Dr. Walker lived to the age 99 years old and he spent a lot of that time advocating juicing and a raw food diet.
HOW IT WORKS
This juicer is what I like to call a powerhouse or what many people like to call it “the Cadillac” of all juicers. It is about 60lbs in weight and very durable with all stainless steel made. It is a two-step process juicer which is an unconventional method compared to all other juicers.
The fresh fruits and vegetables are processed through the housing or the vortex triturator which uses different grids depending on specification; it grinds down the produce into a pulp directly into a filter bag or glass bowl.
After the pulp is completed in step one, if filter bag is used you can place it neatly folded directly into the juice tray to make the juice using the operating valve which controls the amount of pressure required. If a bowl is used to collect the pulp, the pulp will then be placed 1 cup at a time in the filter cloth then processed in the juice tray. This process of juicing gives you the purest quality of juice; no loss of phytonutrients, vitamins, enzymes, and minerals.

Juicing is a great way to increase the amount of fruits and vegetables in your diet rapidly, so I encourage everyone to get a juicer and juice.
